About Don Meichenbaum

Donald Meichenbaum, Ph.D is Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Together with Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck, Dr Meichenbaum is recognised as one of the founders of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and contributed two of the basic six therapy approaches in CBT (Self Instruction Training and Stress Inoculation Training).

Dr Meichenbaum is a noted expert on stress, trauma and resilience - he created one of the first treatment manuals for PTSD. His method of Stress Inoculation Training is still cited by the both American Psychological Association and the VA as an empirically validated treatment for PTSD.

Inn a survey of clinicians reported in the American Psychologist, he was voted “one of the ten most influential psychotherapists of the 20th century.”

He is presently Research Director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention in Miami, Florida (please visit www.melissainstitute.org) and servers on the Senior Advisory Board of The UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy.

He remains passionate about psychotherapy education and training - and has been a foremost critique of the hype, pseudoscience and "neurobabble" that plagues the field.
